Starting with the hardest question first

I have just finished reading “Start With Why”[i], an amazingly inspiring book that has really got me thinking about what I’m all about. And what my new business is all about.  Without getting into full details of Simon Sinek’s awesomeness (check out his podcast here if you want to get really inspired today), the back cover sums it up perfectly: “it doesn’t matter what you do, it matters why you do it”.

So for my very fist attempt at a blog post, I will endeavour to start with my “Why”.   Why am I doing all of this? Why start a business? Why write a blog? Why should you read it? WHY?

Now it might sound a little outrageous but here’s the bottom line…

I want to transform healthcare and improve every individual’s health by increasing the quality and quantity of movement in our lives.

I have been working in public and private healthcare as an Exercise Physiologist in Australia for seven years now.  Not a long time, but long enough to see how the system works. I would love to see people feeling empowered in our healthcare systems rather than bogged down and dependent on practitioners that constantly drain our energy and finances.  We can create empowerment through knowledge and awareness.  Movement can help create awareness in our bodies and our lives, and the knowledge will follow with access to good quality information.  With this newfound knowledge and awareness about these amazing “bodies” we live in, we can start taking responsibility for our health.

My belief is that by changing the way you move you can transform your life and take charge of your health.  Only YOU can heal your body. I am definitely not saying that you have to do it alone.  You can make changes in conjunction with a healthcare team that gives you the tools and materials you need to heal and be healthy.  But at the end of the day it is up to the individual to make the changes.  In a world of unsustainable healthcare and ever increasing rates of chronic disease, some big changes need to be made.

We need to shift the paradigm in healthcare.  I am already seeing less and less clients that expect me to fix them, and an increasing number of people that are prepared to fix themselves while enlisting my help in the process.  We need a tipping point where patients AND healthcare professionals realise that this is the only way forward for health in the modern world.

And so, I created Progressive Motion to help me reach this extremely lofty goal:

Progress – improve, evolve, develop, advance
Motion – movement, action, activity, mobility, flow, shift

My small part in this major change is to help you discover good quality information about exercise and movement that will set you on your path to improved health and wellbeing.  Through Progressive Motion, I will attempt to share the best quality information available, and introduce a variety of different sources that will broaden your idea of movement and illustrate the movement capacity of the human body.  And of course, I will be sharing fun, easy, and playful ways to increase the quantity and quality of movement in all of our lives!

So there’s my rant.  Now you know my master plan.  I promise the blogs that follow will be less heavy with more practical stuff you can use in your daily life.  But I thought it was important to let you know WHY I’m bothering and why you should read on. If you want to come along for the ride, stay tuned to the monthly blog posts and check out my facebook page!

Let me know what you think.  Let me know your WHY.  Why do you wake up in the morning?  Why do you move?
What can I share/research/write about to help you with your movement?

Lots of love and keep moving,
Stacey x
